Practical Woodwork

The practical woodworking course provides pupils with the opportunity to make artefacts (in wood) in a workshop setting.

The course offers flexibility and provides more time for learning. It focuses on skills and applying learning, and scope for personalisation and choice.

The emphasis is on skills development and application of those skills to produce an artefact that reflects the pupil’s level of competence with regards to craft work. The course promotes best practice enabling learners to achieve the highest of standards.

The course provides learners with opportunities to continue to acquire and develop the attributes and capabilities of the four capacities as well as skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.

All courses provide opportunities for learners to develop breadth, challenge and application with the assessment focus being on the production of an artefact rather than an end of unit exam.

Safety plays an important role in practical woodworking and is a focus for the course with good working practices being promoted throughout the year.
